Terms and conditions

Waste must be sorted on delivery to recycling centres in accordance with receiving terms. Reducing the volume of waste means better utilisation of containers, decreased transportation needs and reduced environmental impact. Loads should preferably not be greater than 2 m³ to ensure smooth flow within the centres. Larger loads are directed to SORPA’s receiving and sorting plant at Gufunes or to SORPA’s waste landfill at Álfsnes.

The price list of the recycling centres defines the categories of waste for which a fee is collected. The fee is based on the size of the load and paid according to volume. The basic unit is 0.25 m³, and the minimum fee for chargeable waste is based on this unit. The fee increases by each 0.25 m³ (0.25 m³, 0.5 m³, 0.75 m³, 1 m³, etc.).

Electronic credit cards can be purchased in all waste recycling centres; their status can also be checked and a refill purchased.

Service process

1. An employee greets the customer at the gate on arrival to a recycling center. The customer provides details on the type of waste being brought to the center.

2. A fee is paid according to volume in the event of chargeable waste.

3. The waste is deposited in the appropriate containers according to the instructions of the employee.
