Reusable items Share
Items given to Góði hirðirinn, SORPA´s second hand market, must be in usable condition. Unusable items that are placed in the containers of the market will be disposed of and their transport first to the market, therefore, causes unnecessary environmental effects, inconvenience and expense.
Keep the following, therefore, in mind when donating items to Góði hirðirinn:
- Is the item definitely usable? Would you use the item yourself? If not, others will probably not wish to do so either.
- Does the item need repairing? Unfortunately, Góði hirðirinn has neither the facilities nor the manpower to repair items.
- Are the items packaged in such a manner that they can withstand transportation in the container without being damaged?
In the event of large volumes, it is best to contact the shop manager in advance.
No goods are accepted directly at the shop, only at recycling centrers.

What happens to the material?
Reusable items go to Góði hirðirinn, SORPA’s thrift store. All profits from sales go to aid and charitable work, and more than ISK 255 million have been allocated from 1996 to 2019.
Other possibilities
The following items seldom or never sell, and we therefore request that they are sent elsewhere. Note that most materials have some form of recycling pathway at the recycling centres, such as metals, glass and electrical appliances.
- Furniture with torn or very dirty upholstery or if parts are missing, such as cushions in a sofa or doors to cabinets.
- Unassembled shelves and cabinets (except new in packaging and hansa-shelves).
- Skis, skates and toboggans do not sell during summer. Plastic garden furniture does not sell during winter.
- Tube TVs and Tube screens. Printers do not sell, and there is no opportunity to see if they are in order.
- VHS tapes.
- Ceramics that are damaged, e.g. plates, glasses, cups.
- Foreign encyclopaedias and books, old foreign paperbacks and books smelling of damp or mould.
- Safety goods such as fire extinguishers, child seats, helmets, aid apparatus – e.g. walkers, wheelchairs, shower seats and similar items.
- Torn suitcases or cases with damaged locks.
