The category includes slaughter waste and animal remains in category 3 according to Regulation no. 674/2017. This refers to all slaughter waste from healthy animals, as well as bones and other animal remains from meat processing plants, canteens, kitchens, etc. Down and feathers also fall into this category.
Materials must be delivered as fresh as possible and undamaged. There must be no contaminants in the shipments, neither plastic, metals nor anything else. See further information on classification 1-3. in Attachment 1, Section 4 of the Regulation.
Loads that do not meet the requirements of the terms of receipt may be rejected. A special surcharge, 30% of the charge for cargo, which will never be lower than the minimum charge to the landfill, is imposed if waste and / or delivery is not in accordance with the reception conditions.

What happens to the material?
The material is buried and immediately covered at SORPA's landfill in Álfsnes.
A "commercial document" specifying the type of material and risk category shall be sent to the e-mail address DUrdunarstadur@sorpa.is and shall be signed and submitted electronically as a pdf. SORPA´s staff will record the weight of the cargo in the relevant document and send confirmation of its receipt to the waste owner.
Organic waste will not be allowed to be buried in Álfsnes after 31 December 2021.
