The category includes slaughter waste and animal remains in the 2nd category according to Regulation no. 674/2017. This refers to slaughter waste that may be processed into meat meal and fat, e.g. gastrointestinal tract and its contents.
It is not permitted to accept other substances in the 2nd risk category or remains from animals with signs of serious diseases, e.g. salmonella, or anything else that can be contagious. Loads may not contain anything else.
Waste shall be delivered in a container that meets the requirements of Regulation no. 674/2017 for the transport of slaughter waste. A container shall be left in Álfsnes ready for transport and retrieved in consultation with the employees in Álfsnes.
Materials must be delivered as fresh and undamaged and without foreign objects, such as metals, plastics, etc. See further information on classification in 1.-3. category in Attachment 1, Section 4 of the Regulation.
Loads that do not meet the requirements of the terms of receipt may be rejected. A special surcharge, 30% of the charge for cargo, which will never be lower than the minimum charge to the landfill site, is imposed if waste and / or delivery is not in accordance with the reception conditions.
What happens to the material?
The material is transported for recycling at Kjötmjölsverksmiðjan Orkugerðin ehf, Heiðargerði 5, Selfoss, where meat flour and fat are processed.
A "commercial document" specifying the type of material and risk category shall be submitted to Orkugerðin electronically and Orkugerðin's employees record the weight of the cargo in the relevant document and confirm its receipt.
The "commercial document" is accessible to the waste owner and carrier at Orkugerðin via web access.
If a defect is not found until after the material has been placed in Orkugerðin's silo, the sender shall pay the costs resulting from the defect.
